{ friday inspiration! }

photos

My apologies, the interweb was not working yesterday, and since I write my posts the night before nothing was posted today.

To inspire you this Friday - and to make up for not posting yesterday - I give you awkward family photos! Most were funny and indeed awkward... like the slushies, teddy bears and kittens?!

{ ikea ps collection 2009 }

ikeaps

I'm sure everyone is already familiar with Ikea's PS Collection 2009 - it really spreads like wildfire through the design blogs - but I thought I would share my favourites as well.

At the top of my list is the PS Maskros pendant lamp that reminds me of a gigantic dandelion blossom!

{ cappuccio by sartoria vico }

cappuccio

If you remember how adoringly I praised the 2008 Cappuccio by Sartoria Vico, you will not be surprised that I am just as smitten with their Cappuccio from the 2009 collection. Such a pleasant spring and summer capelet!

{ kanteleen kutsu by sanna annukka for marimekko }

mari1
mari2

Too much for me to sum up, here it is direct from Marimekko:

"Sanna Annukka has created for Marimekko a series of expressive designs full of meaning, telling stories from the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. The Kanteleen kutsu fabric depicts forest animals that have, enchanted, gathered to hear the joyful tunes played on the kantele, a plucked string instrument, by Väinämöinen, the main character of the Kalevala. Väinämöinen, a shamanistic hero, had made his instrument from the jawbone of a giant pike.

Mugs, tea towels and other ready-made products feature individual animals, birds, squirrels, bears picked from the Kanteleen kutsu fabric. The Sampo, a wealth grinding magic mill with a multi-coloured lid, is featured in the impressive Taikamylly fabric and matching cushion covers, plates and trays. The Ihmemaa art print, sold by the repeat, shows the landscape of Kaleva, the Land of Heroes, and Lake Alue. In the depths of the lake, a whitefish has swallowed fire fallen from the heavens. The series also includes the Onnen helmet duvet cover design, which tells of how Väinämöinen, moved as he played the kantele, cried big tears that flowed into the sea and there changed into pearls.

{ our new NYC studio apartment }

nycapt

Goodness! I have been gone too long from this.. I apologize! I'll be back on Monday with some goodies.

Justin and I trekked to NYC this past week and were determined to find an apartment in three days. IT IS SO HARD TO FIND A SHORT TERM RENTAL IN NYC. It was a stressful and exhausting search.

After meeting with numerous shady Craigslist people and a few brokers, we settled on the above apartment - a fully furnished studio on the Upper East Side. It is totally perfect, just more than we planned on spending. Plus, there was a broker's fee. However, it is on a quiet street, has plenty of space and it comes with a full bed and a futon for guests!

If you are in NYC from June to September, let's hang out!

{ moving to nyc }

Hello, everyone. I forgot I had a blog!

I am crazy busy - whilst I was in Tokyo, Justin landed a summer internship in NYC. WOOT! Now we are drowning in the massive ocean of apartment ads all over the internet. Does anyone know of a nice 3-6 month lease for a private studio or one bedroom rental around $1,500?

this whole thing is both exciting and stressful. After all, I still don't have a job and the cost of living in NYC isn't going to help us financially. However, it is a great opportunity for Justin and a chance for us to "sample" NYC before making any rash decisions!
