preshafruit packaging
In keeping with my fruity theme, here is some crisp packaging for Preshafruit Juices, designed by Australia-based Pidgeon. These unique juices are pasteurised using cold pressure rather than heat, which ensures greater retention of nutrition and natural flavour. The minimal packaging presents this beverage to me as pure and refreshing - borderline "medicinal," but in a good, healthy sort of way.

poetry by ellen kennedy
The title of this book made me smile. I take it in a "full of love" sort of way, not an "organ failure or misfortune" kind of way. Sometimes My Heart Pushes My Ribs by Ellen Kennedy.

dairy house extension
This converted dairy house has an incredible extension that houses two bathrooms and an adjacent bathing pool. The translucency of the wooden form comes from alternating layers of oak and glass blocks. The oak slats, refined on the interior, were left naturally weathered on the outside.
Swoon!

vector portraits by andrew bush
Vector Portraits by Andrew Bush, from 1989-1997
"Photographs made while traveling 50 to 70 mph in Los Angeles and other parts of the Southwestern United States." I would like to know if the artist had an intentional disposition toward older cars, which in turn made many of the photographs appear as if they were many decades older than the 80s and 90s.

Stuhlhockerbank by Yvonne Fehling and Jennie Peiz:
"Stuhlhockerbank" (chair stool bench) is a series of seating for public spaces that approach users and viewers in an extraordinary way. The dividing lines between different types of furniture are eliminated as the three types blend. The results are immobile constellations that seem familiar and yet at the same time surprising, enhanced by a sensual and poetic dimension.

loop by matthew weatherly
Loop by Matthew Weatherly is a sculptural experiment for future furniture projects. The compressed maple wood has incredible properties:
"During the compression process, the steamed lumber is reduced to about 80% of its original longitudinal length, breaking it down on a cellular level. As long as the wood retains its approximate 25% humidity range, it can be cold formed, and then dried to a desired shape."

cracked crockery by ornamented life
Cracked Crockery celebrates the blemishes of old dinnerware, and reminds me of the CMYK Tableware I posted about in July!
"Old, cast-off dinnerware is given new life as this Danish designer fills cracks and chips with 24K gold and then embellishes them with hand-made enamel floral transfers that "grow" out of the damage, making what was once flawed a work of reusable art. Each piece is unique."

japanese houses II
I love Japanese homes, especially in the condensed suburbs of Tokyo. The houses are often designed on miniscule lots, and each square inch is cherished space. Thus, the designs are unique and innovative in their attempts to maximize space, efficiency and light.
Most of the houses shown here are from Tokyo, and I hope to discover them on my upcoming trip!

textural wallpaper by intrade
I caught this textural wallpaper over at Husmusen, but I can't really tell you anything about it! All I know is that it is three dimensional, as if someone stuck a gigantic doily into wet paint.
I think the website, InTrade, is in Swedish, or Swiss... well, check out their entire collection, it is really wonderful and ranges from quiet, traditional prints to bold modern patterns.

drip maple syrup packaging by superficial
Designed by Superficial, Drip Maple Syrup packaging intended to elevate the aesthetic of the product far above the current log cabin packaging associated with it.
The packaging exudes luxury, and with luxury comes distinction, refinement and superior quality. It has a high-end cosmetic and medicinal aesthetic, which I think adequately translates the expertise required in the harvesting and purification process of quality maple syrup. The application of the syrup in a dropper makes the experience feel like an exquisite treatment, backed by the flourishing text on each bottle.

tsubota pearl's stick lighter
Tsubota Pearl's Stick Lighter is probably the only lighter I have ever liked, mostly because the design makes it look like anything but a traditional lighter - subtle, attractive and well-designed. It stays lit, so it is perfect for lighting candles (the only reason I use a lighter).
Oh, and it comes as a stick perfume applicator, too!

nooka zub watches
To brighten up this Tuesday I am starting with my favourite watches: the Zub series from Nooka. The Zub series has a clean design and a band made from polyurethane that blends seamlessly with the digital watch face.
I really love these watches because of Nooka's unique approach to time telling - opting for abstract representations of time, rather than numbers and rotating hands. It is both graphic and clandestine, as if one was part of a secret club.

colourful masking tape by mt
These have been circulating around for a little while now, and I finally caught the name of the manufacturer over at Oh Joy! - Unfortunately, they seem to be selling out all over the web.
Fortunately for me they are produced in Japan and I definitely plan on grabbing mass quantities of these colourful masking tapes from MT in April! Maybe if you are good I will bring you some, too ;D
Update! Some versions of this tape are available over at Ginko Papers, in packs of three rolls each with a different pattern!

fred & friends
This might be a little off course, but I am really, really amused by Fred & Friends. If you haven't been introduced to their products yet, they produce an extremely humorous line of functional (although totally unnecessary) products, some of which I would actually own. Otherwise, they make great cheeky gifts.
Some of my favourites, shown above clockwise:
Half Pint Creamer, $14
Iconoclasps Paper Clips, $5
Frozen Smiles Ice Cube Tray, $6.50
Early Bird Alarm Clock, $25
Golden Nest Egg Bank, $24

entoptic phenomena by william hundley
Brilliant (and somewhat disturbing) photography by Austin-based William Hundley. Entoptic Phenomena uses amorphous, billowing fabric as its subject, often in suspended or floating compositions.
Flipping through this series' Flickr photosteam, I found myself creating personalities and background stories for each photograph, fabricated from a combination of the subject's form, fabric pattern/colour and scene.

monacca bags
Monacca produces home decor and personal accessory items made from thinned Japanese cedar in Umaji Village, Kochi Prefecture of Japan. Above are the Kaku and Maru bags, which cost a pretty penny but they are sure to wow someone in an interview or a client meeting!
The wood is actually repurposed from trees that have been "thinned" in the cedar forests. Trees are maintained in order to prevent extremely dense forests that would result in poor quality trees and the scrapped wood was not utilized before Monacca.
