{ her morning escape video by yuval and merav nathan }

orenlavie

I greatly encourage you to watch this video for Oren Lavie's song "Her Morning Elegance." (link to the left of their website)

Couple/duo Yuval & Merav Nathan are the brilliant animators behind this lovely live action stop motion photography video. Their light and fanciful aesthetic blends seamlessly with the singer's smooth voice and lyrics.

zumy

Zuny is a collection of whimsical, animal-shaped leather accessories for the home: bookends, paperweights and memo clips. Each animal is handmade and comes with a dimensional environment and a Zuny manual, containing animal facts like the ID and DOB.

Their website is just as simple and charming as their product line!

Zuny worked with the design team at Bonanza Brand Marketing Group to create miniature die-cut worlds for each animal from their box packaging.

{ fold by united nude }

foldshoe

United Nude defines itself "as an iconic brand at the intersection between design and fashion." It was founded in 2003 by Rem D. Koolhaas and Galahad Clark.

I was immediately drawn to the Fold Shoe, the way a single strip of fabric elegantly wraps itself into a sassy, sexy shoe.

For more eye candy, check out their Bubble Boot and their Peel Pump.

{ o de oliva packaging by dfraile }

deoliva

Shown above is the collective packaging line for O de Oliva's olive oil, dressings and organic oil. The line, designed by Spanish design studio Dfraile, ranges from retro to austere, perhaps to symbolize the different unique personalities that each olive oil line has to offer its tasters.

I was most drawn to the top design, in which the background pattern mimics retro kitchen tiling and fabrics!

Check out this new bold flooring by Flor, called Shiny Happy Stripe! The name sort of reminds me of a Chinese restaurant name...

"Sophistication and glamour come together with these stylish and subtle stripe tones topped off with a slight metallic sheen. The surface is soft cut pile with a velvety smooth finish."

{ skygarden by flos }

This has been around since 2007, so perhaps I am a bit behind the times on this one - but look at this incredible lamp! Skygarden by Flos has a traditional cast plaster design hidden inside a modern shell.

{ the lace fence by demakersvan }

"Fencing is a sign how we modified and cultivated our environment. Like brambles fences are rising rampantly around us. What would happen if a patch of embroided wire would meet with and continue as an industrial fence. Hostility versus kindness,
industrial versus craft."

Demakersvan combinines the utilitarian with aesthetics in their design for Lace Fence.

{ holiday, part IV }

Sunday Justin and I hit the beach on our excursion to Bethel, Maine. It was an afternoon of sharp wind, warm sunlight, sandy snow and stretched shadows.

Afterwards we stopped at the Kittery Outlets in Maine for some shopping randomness. I never like about 95% of the stores, but I did purchase some frosted tealight candle holders from Crate and Barrel at some stellar clearance prices.

Late in the evening we finally arrived at a charming little cabin off of the large Songo Pond, just south of center of Bethel. Dad made my favourite dinner - macaroni and cheese with hot dogs! Awesome.

{ holiday, part III }

We spent the rest of Saturday afternoon in Cambridge, at these wonderful stores:

Joie de Vivre is a fun little designerly and novelty toy store, with plenty of playful objects for children and adults from companies like Knock Knock and Fred & Friends.

Abodeon is a great modern home decor shop selling both vintage furniture/decor pieces and new designs from companies like Sagaform and Blomus.

Brattle Square Florist is a narrow brick store that overwhelms you with the fragrances and colours of dozens of beautiful flowers and plants. The cuttings were fresh, and offered some non-traditional options as well.

Black Ink is a quirky store full of incredible modern ceramics, charming letterpress greeting cards, Japanese toys and practical objects from the (brick and mortar retired) Museum of Useful Things. I would show you my finds but I left them in Boston :(

Last but not least, a lovely dinner at Wagamama, a contemporary "cafeteria style" asian cuisine eatery. I had the Yasai Katsu Curry - squash, curry and sticky rice, yum! - and Justin had the Yaki Soba. We finished with refreshing coconut ice cream with mango sauce and toasted coconut topping.

{ holiday, part II }

Saturday we visited the Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art specifically for Tara Donovan's exhibit. Photographs fail to capture the intimacy with which each installation was made and the subtle refraction of light from each material's surface.

Shown above is Clockwork for Oracles, an installation by Ugo Rondinone in the ICA lobby. Fifty-two mirrored glass windows in a rainbow of colors and variety of sizes with recycled barn wood frames set against a backdrop of white-washed pages from The Boston Globe. See Justin, and segments of me?

{ holiday, part I }

From January 2nd to January 12th I will be on holiday in Boston and Maine to visit Justin and enjoy skiing with family.

Friday began at 4:30a with a groggy trip to the airport and a stopover in Philadelphia before landing in Boston. The sunrise was quiet and reserved, with most of the flight(s) spent in a belly of gray clouds. The man sitting next to me on my second flight had the most epic mullet I have ever experienced.

The day was spent purchasing last minute ski gear, seeing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Justin's family, and geeking out with Justin's coworkers playing Guitar Hero at their belated work holiday party.
